The Church of Christ at Cambrian Road, Tunbridge Wells invites You to hear our Guest Speaker from Ireland.

Steve Kearney is from Ireland and became a Christian in 1966 when he was living in South Africa. He has since returned to Ireland and from 1975 onwards has dedicated his life to preaching the gospel and working tirelessly to build a congregation in Dublin. He has visited and preached here at the Church of Christ in Tunbridge Wells, Kent on many occasions and we look forward to his next visit here on 22nd to 24th June, 2012. He will preaching on the subject of the Christian race. 

Preparing for the race. Friday 22nd June at 7.30pm

Just as an athlete has to show self-control in preparation for the competition ahead, by exercising, practising and maintaining a good diet, so we have to in order to be spiritually fit for the course ahead of us, a race which lasts our entire lifetime requires discipline. (1 Cor 9: 24 -27)

Running the race. Saturday 23rd June at 6.30pm

As we progress along the course, in the same way as an athlete will ensure that they are not carrying additional unnecessary weight so that they will not get tired prematurely or be slower than they need to be, so we need to leave behind the sin that holds us back in our spiritual race. The athlete also looks ahead towards the finish line and thinks about the joy of winning and receiving a medal, we look to Jesus for our inspiration and the joy of an eternal heavenly home with him as our prize. Anyone breaking the rules will be disqualified, not only losing out on the prize and the glory, but also be subject to the shame of cheating. (Hebrews 12: 1-2, 2 Tim 2: 5)

Winning the race. Sunday 24th June at 6pm

The athlete receives only a perishable prize, our reward for successfully completing the course is the crown of life, an eternal home in heaven so is imperishable. The Christians reward is so much better as not only does it benefit us here on earth, but also in the life to come. (1 Tim 4: 8, Jas 1: 12)
